How Can You Prevent Another Episode of Bacterial Vaginosis?

Most episodes of bacterial vaginosis (BV) occur because of some underlying health problems that are not yet identify or well address. Others are cause by our actions and such can be preventable. This article will focus on what actions should be avoided as not to upset the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina.

First, do not push water into your vagina to clean it (douching).

More studies revealed that women who douche regularly experience more vaginal irritations and infections which include bacterial vaginosis among others. Regular vaginal douching upsets the delicate chemical balance of the vagina which can make a woman more susceptible to infections. In addition to this, douching can introduce new bacteria into the vagina which can spread up through the cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes.

Second, do not add bath oils, antiseptics, scented soaps, perfumed bubble bath, shampoos etc, to bath water.

These products once it reaches your vagina certainly upset its chemical balance which can cause irritations and infections. You can do better using pure water.

Third, do not use strong detergents to wash your underwear.

This maybe sound obvious but a lot of women do not pay serious attention to this. You should not wash your underwear using the same detergents you use to wash your working cloths as some of the strong detergent residues may find its way to your vagina, thus triggering chemical upset.

Lastly, do not wash around your vagina too often. Once a day washing is usually enough for most women.
